Lunchtime Concert Series @ MREH

March 25 - May 29

Lime's popular Lunchtime Concert Series, now in its eighth year, sees over 100 concerts taking place annually and gives hospital visitors, patients, and staff a chance to enjoy live concert performances from top musicians. Set within the Royal Manchester Eye Hospital Atrium, concerts feature a range of genres and instrumentalists from light classical, to jazz, to music from West Africa, Eastern Europe, and Southeast Asia.

March Dates and Times:

 

Wednesday 27th March, 12.30pm – 1.30pm : Ravi Nathwani

Ravi is an exciting young British Asian guitarist currently in the second year of his Master's degree at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, bringing a classical guitar recital to the Eye Hospital Atrium!

 

Wednesday 29th March, 12.30-1.30pm : Martin Bickerman

A solo guitar recital from a superb classical guitarist, sure to relax and entertain!

 

April Dates and Times:

 

Wednesday 10th April, 12.30-1.30pm: Mark McKenzie

A piano recital of gospel and jazz classics from one of Manchester’s best loved gospel performers

 

Wednesday 17th April, 12.30-1.30pm : Jeff Guntren with Richard Jones or Paul Kilvington.

Saxophonist and Pianist duo providing smooth and soulful recitals of well-loved songs.

 

Wednesday 24th April, 12.30-1.30pm : Manouche North

Yiddish songs, soaring nigunim, and dances from violinist Stephen Shulman and accordionist Nigel Waterhouse.

 

Monday 29th April, 12.30-1.30pm: Jeff Guntren with Richard Jones or Paul Kilvington.

Saxophonist and Pianist duo providing smooth and soulful recitals of well-loved songs.

 

May Dates and Times:

 

Wednesday 1st May, 12.30-1.30pm : John Lancaster

A solo sitar recital of selected ragas from Indian classical music. John is a long-time student of sitar (long-necked lute) and surbahar (a kind of 'bass sitar') and north indian music more generally, having spent time in india studying with Ustad Siraj Khan of the Mewati gharana (school or method). For these recitals, John will be focusing on the alaap movements of a raag - a slow, unmetered and wholly improvised, note-by-note unfolding of the selected raga. This movement is particularly suited to the acoustics of the atrium.

 

Monday 6th May, 12.30-1.30pm: Sanket Jadhav

Solo piano concert of delicate music to relax visitors and staff at the RMEH Atrium.

 

Wednesday 8th May, 12.30-1.30pm: Chris Lydon

A solo piano recital of popular jazz standards and American songbook classics.

 

Tuesday 14th May, 12.30-1.30pm: Sarah Atter

Member of the British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, flautist Sarah brings her vivid experience and skill to MREH Atrium.

 

Wednesday 22nd May, 12.30-1.30pm: Elin Bolland

This talented Royal Northern College of Music pianist brings her collection of indie pop influenced original songs.

 

Monday 27th May, 12.30-1.30pm: Jeff Guntren with Richard Jones or Paul Kilvington.

Saxophonist and Pianist duo providing smooth and soulful recitals of well-loved songs.

 

Wednesday 29th May, 12.30-1.30pm: Aaben Duo

Jess Hughes (Harp) and Nathan Holroyd (Saxophone), bring both new and traditional inspiration to their performances. The saxophone and harp duo is an exciting up-and-coming genre, which is internationally recognised and spearheaded by Manchester musicians!
